THE water woes of 50,000-odd residents in Kanowit, Nibong Tada, Machan and Sibu Jaya should be over soon.

State Utilities and Telecommunications Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi said Phase Two of the Kanowit Water Supply Project would be completed by the end of this year.

“The project is also expected to be a catalyst for growth in these areas,” he said.

The project is implemented by Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) at a cost of RM63.5mil.

“It involves the installation of water pipelines from Salim Water Treatment Plant in Sibu to the Kanowit area, the connection of water pipelines to existing systems in Sibu Jaya, booster pump station in Durin and construction of water tank in Bukong Jagoi,” he said.

Narawi added that JBALB would ensure works were completed within the stipulated time frame.

“This project is part of the Sarawak Water Supply Grid System,” he said.
