RM800mil to resolve water supply issues in Kelantan, Sabah

KUALA LUMPUR: The federal government will allocate an additional RM800 million to help resolve water woes in Kelantan and Sabah, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
He acknowledged how residents in these two states did not have access to consistent and quality water supply, and reiterated that Putrajaya was committed to addressing these issues.
“The government has agreed to prepare RM800 million in additional funds to implement short-term measures (to resolve water supply issues) in the two states.
“Putrajaya has pledged to ensure all Malaysians have universal access to basic infrastructure, whether it’s water or electricity,” he said at the launch of the Madani economic narrative (NEM) at the Securities Commission today.
Anwar was joined by deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy finance minister Ahmad Maslan, economy minister Rafizi Ramli, defence minister Mohamad Hasan and Chief Secretary Zuki Ali.
Previously, the government had allocated RM600 million to solve infrastructure issues in Sabah, including the rural water supply (BALB) project.
Some RM500 million had also been allocated for the Tok Bali water plant project and the replacement of water pipes in Bachok, Kelantan.
Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said the government will expedite the implementation of flood mitigation projects in states like Kelantan, Pahang, Selangor and Johor to protect residents from recurring floods.
